Loren was born on April 28 ,1928 at Highland Hospital.He was predeceased by his parents William and Betty Cohn and sister Miriam.He was a very thoughtful and caring son to his parents.He took care of both of them in their elderly years.
He attended Benjamin Franklin High School and graduated in 1946.He attended Alfred University from 1948-1950 for Accounting and Business Law.He also attended Rochester Institute of Technology from 1950-1951 for Accounting Auditing, Law, Tax Accounting
Loren was a proud Army Veteran, joining the U.S.Army Signal Corps in 1952-1954 in Camp Gordon, Georgia
Loren was employed over 30 years by the Workers Compensation Board as a Investigator for New York State.He performed many different jobs as Investigator, Taxpayer Assistant, Auditor and Tax Examiner.
Loren lived a full life .
He met President Truman on his last visit to Rochester NY in 1952.He met Senator Jack Kennedy one on one a year before the Democratic Convention nominated him for President.He also attended the big parade in 1969 when Kennedy appeared in a open car in Rochester NY.He was a proud member of the Democrat party.
Loren traveled extensively in his retirement years.
He went to Eastern Europe and Russia and the capital of Moscow.He also went to Australia, New Zealand, Las Vegas, Hawaii, Florida and any place he could think of! He truly loved traveling and always kept in touch with the friends he made.
On a trip to Cuba with his high school friend Cal Rosenbaum , they were held at the start of the Revolution and rescued by the American Embassy and returned to Key West Florida ( Monroe County Florida) then back home to Rochester NY.A article was posted in the Democrat & Chronicle in January 1959 of their experience.
He enjoyed going to the race tracks, taking day trips, bus trips, going out to lunch, at Billy’s Homestead with his friend, Maurice Brusdal for over 30 years!, he also enjoyed his friendships with Ken Neaman and Neil Fischer as well as his yearly trip to Wellsville NY at the Texas Hot Restaurant for their pancakes! He enjoyed watching the older movies and reading the paper every day.He was interested in trains and knew everything about them .He was a walking encyclopedia, he knew the history of anything you would ask him.He had a memory of someone in their twenties even thou he was 96! He also loved to sing! He would sing when he was alone or in a room full of people and take requests! He liked meeting new people and talking to them.
He was extremely generous over the years donating to many charities.
He donated to Cancer research in memory of his sister.He donated to Marian’s House, Jewish Senior Life Foundation and many other places.
Loren was a very kind , thoughtful sweet man.A true old fashion gentleman.He appreciated any kindness towards him.This last year was very hard on him having to give up his independence, giving up his usual routine and realizing his life would never be the same due to his declining health situation.He truly missed being independent.
He is survived by his cousins, Mabel and Jochanan Stenesh , David and Susan Taylor.
He is also survived by many of his friends who loved him and will miss him very much.
A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, February 25th at 11AM at White Haven Memorial Park, 210 Marsh Road, Pittsford.Contributions may be made to the Open Door Mission or the American Cancer Society in Loren’s memory.
