A Pokémon presentation was planned for today, and it certainly did not skimp on the big news.Game Freak has now announced the arrival of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the next mainline games in the series, Gen 9.And it’s coming sooner than you might imagine, just a year after Pokémon Arceus Legends, in late 2022.
The release window is not the only similarity to Legends.Scarlet and Violet very much resemble the look of Legends and it seems like an open-ish world may be on the table.Visuals are still…not amazing, from the reveal stream, but probably a touch better than Legends, at least.
The preview was just a short part of the 15 minute Pokémon presentation, but in addition to some visuals of the new landscape, we did get a look at the three new starters in 2D form.

Plantkitten Firegator Hatduck
No word on their actual names or what their evolved forms look like ( Update : their real names are Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly), but they are saving that for another day, it seems.There are no more details despite the game being 10 or less months away, though the timing does line up with the usual release schedule of mainline Pokémon games, more or less.
I think some people are just surprised that Game Freak did both this and Arceus within a year of each other.I imagine that many concepts of Arceus may be implemented in Scarlet and Violet, but we’ll have to wait and see.

We’ll see when Game Freak wants to talk more about Scarlet and Violet, so instead, just print out those starters and stare at them on your wall for a while.
