Three New NES Games, Including Metroid, Are Headed to Nintendo Switch Online Next Week


imageMetroid, Mighty Bomb Jack, and TwinBee will all be headed to the Nintendo Switch Online – Nintendo Entertainment System library next Wednesday, November 14.

Joining the ever-growing list of NES titles that are playable with a Nintendo Switch Online membership, these three follow last month’s additions of NES Open Tournament Golf, Solomon’s Key, Super Dodge Ball, and the surprise inclusion of The Legend of Zelda SP which starts Link with every item in the game and 255 rupees.

Metroid was originally released in Japan on the Famicom Disk System in August of 1986 and arrived in North America in August of 1987 on the Nintendo Entertainment System.Metroid follows bounty hunter Samus Aran as she goes on a mission to destroy Mother Brain.

In 2004, Metroid was remade on the Game Boy Advance as Metroid: Zero Mission.Have you played TwinBee?

YES NO At E3 2017, Nintendo announced that Metroid Prime 4 was in development and Captain Marvel’s Brie Larson recently said she wants to play Samus Aran in a Metroid movie.

Mighty Bomb Jack was released in 1986 for the NES by Tecmo and is a platformer that follows Jack as he traverses a pyramid in hopes to defeat the demon Belzebut and save the royal Pamera family.

In our review of Mighty Bomb Jack, for when it appeared on Wii’s Virtual Console, we said ” Mighty Bomb Jack is a poor candidate for your time investment.”

TwinBee is a vertical-scrolling shoot ’em up by Konami in the vein of Namco’s Xevious and featured a cartoon style and was released for the Famicom Disc System in 1988.

TwinBee originally appeared as an arcade game and was also released in Japan and other regions as a 3D Classic for the Nintendo 3DS in 2011.

Nintendo Switch Online went live on September 18, 2018 and brought with its subscription fee access to NES games, cloud saves, online play, and the ability to pre-order wireless NES controllers for the Switch..
