Nintendo revealing a new Super Smash Bros.fighter is always something of an event, and here we are with the very last reveal of Smash Ultimate after nearly a dozen challenge packs before it.There’s no point beating around the bush, the final Smash fighter for this generation is Sora from Kingdom Hearts.
Sakurai revealed that when Nintendo held a poll many years ago, Sora was the most requested fighter, so they wanted to make sure he made his way into the game eventually. They kept the results of that poll a secret until now, because they didn’t want fans going after the companies of the characters to try and get them to petition Nintendo.
But it’s been pretty common knowledge that Nintendo fans have wanted Sora in the game for years now.
Sora is the star of the Disney/Square Enix collaboration series, Kingdom Hearts, which blends his Final Fantasy-like aesthetic with traditional Disney and Pixar characters. He wields a large Keyblade, an iconic weapon in video game history, and it’s how he was first introduced in the preview here.
Sora, which means “sky,” is very floaty and excels are aerial combat.
But he’s a lightweight character, which is his biggest weakness, Sakurai says.
Sora will join three new Mii costumes, Octoling, Judd and Doom Slayer (who was another fan pick for a full character release) on October 18 when this final DLC pack is released.
The rest of the presentation showed of Sora’s moves, who Sakurai describes as accessible, but still a pretty involved character.Obviously most of his attacks are Keyblade focused, and in some ways he’ll echo the myriad of sword-wielding characters the game already has.
But he’s certainly distinct from the Fire Emblem crowd, as he also boasts a ton of magic-based elemental attacks.

In any case, I’m sure fans are celebrating Sora, and you can play with him in short order here.
Now, we wait until we start this whole process over again in a few years.
