As a new weekend of Trials of Osiris began in Destiny 2, content creator Datto took to Twitter to offer a bounty to whoever at Bungie would nerf Shatterdive, or just flat-out remove it from the game.
What I was not expecting to see was actual news made here, as Destiny 2’s Sandbox Discipline Lead Kevin Yanes replied to the tweet, saying that a nerf, along with other nerfs, were coming soon:
Shatterdive is the insta-kill Hunter skill where they can throw down a Stasis glacial grenade then instantly smash it for a one-hit-kill in a rather large AOE area around it.If executed correctly it has practically zero counterplay, and this is after some previous nerfs already, like decreasing player damage of Stasis crystal shards. For this skill, it hasn’t really mattered.
So Destiny 2 is going to nerf Shatterdive again, but also “a slew of other abilities.” This will be delivering on a promise Bungie has made previously, where they want Crucible PvP to be more focused on gunplay than abilities. We’ve already seen some nerfs in that regard, like to Icarus dash, and in the past to Hunter dodge, though I suspect that could get hit again.
What other abilities might be on the table? This sounds like a pretty massive rebalance patch, so even though we are out of the “Stasis is fully ruining everything” era, my guess would be:
Warlock Stasis Turrets Warlock Rifts Warlock Arc Souls Titan Dunemarchers Hunter Dodge Perhaps longer ability cooldowns across the board for PvP specifically

The 30th Anniversary patch on December 7 will add all that content into the game, the new free six-man activity, the paid dungeon, and more, but this is the first I’ve heard that it will also be a larger patch for game balance.I am expecting at least some level of mid-season refreshes too, like ones we’ve already heard about (10 new transmog bounties activated) but I’m hoping there’s more they just haven’t discussed yet.
Glad to see Bungie communicating about this early, but it does mean that Shatterdive in particular, along with things like the Warlock-Stag-Arc-Soul meta will continue to be in place for the next two month, which some players may not be thrilled about. But I do understand rolling that into a much larger patch if there are a host of abilities that are going to be touched, and those changes may all play off each other.
For now, Hunters, keep diving. For everyone else, don’t go within 40 feet of Hunters.
There you go.
